At PMGHS our World Book Day activities want on for a whole week! On Monday 4th March, Nathan Parker, two-time shortlisted author of the Lancashire Book of the Year and acclaimed writer of the novel ‘The Disappearance of Timothy Dawson’, visited school and delivered a fascinating assembly to the Year 9s. He shared insights into his writing journey and his personal path to becoming an author. Then Nathan led a series of narrative writing workshops, guiding Year 9 pupils to write a story based on his story structure. It was fantastic to be able to meet and work with a real author.
On World Book Day itself, there was a range of activities planned for pupils to enjoy reading. In English lessons, pupils participated in carousel activities, allowing them to immerse themselves in the differing genreS of murder mystery, horror, sci-fi and fantasy. At lunchtime, pupils were able to take a photo with their favourite book or with a reading prop of their choice at the photo booth. This was great fun! Reading badges, created by Anisah Vorajee in Year 11, were sold at lunchtime and all proceeds will be going to charity. There was also a book trail around the Dr Khan building, where 12 book covers were on display with the titles and author names hidden and pupils had to guess what they were. Pupils were also given World Book Day tokens, which they could use during the Scholastic Book Fair, Wednesday 20th March to Tuesday 26th March.
Lastly, there is an inter-form competition that is currently taking place with each form group (Year 7-10) choosing a book as inspiration to decorate their form door.
