Every pupil has a dedicated time to read on Tuesdays during form to engage in private reading, where they are encouraged to read a book that sparks their interest and read at their own pace. This time allows pupils to explore books in a relaxed and supportive environment, fostering a love for reading and helping to develop their literacy skills.
To further support this initiative, the school librarian delivers a specially selected box of books to each designated form room to ensure pupils always have access to a range of books and encourage wider reading for pleasure.
This initiative encourages wider reading for pleasure, promoting the idea that reading is not just a task but an enjoyable and enriching experience. It also helps foster a lifelong love of books by allowing pupils to be given the freedom to read books that interest them, so that they can see reading as a pleasurable activity.
