We are thrilled to share the exhilarating journey undertaken by three Year 9 students during the ESU Debate Mace Round 1. The ESU Debate Mace stands as the oldest and largest debating competition for schools, providing a platform for our pupils to engage with pressing global issues while refining their critical thinking and debating skills.

Under the guidance of Miss S Ugradar, our students have been diligently preparing for this debate. Through weekly lunchtime sessions filled with spirited discussions and rigorous practice, they have demonstrated dedication and enthusiasm. In the first round of the competition, our debaters faced off against opponents from Blackburn Sixth Form. The motion, ‘This House Supports the implementation of a four-day school week,’ created intense deliberations and impassioned arguments.

With eloquence and conviction, our students took on the role of the opposition, articulating convincing reasons why a four-day school week might not be the best solution. They highlighted potential drawbacks such as the increased pressure on students to cover the same curriculum in fewer days, challenges for working parents in arranging childcare, and the potential negative impact on extracurricular activities.

Through meticulous research and persuasive rhetoric, our debaters effectively countered the proposition’s arguments, showcasing their ability to think critically under pressure. Their performance not only demonstrated their deep understanding of the topic but also reflected their dedication and teamwork.

The atmosphere was electric as each speaker eloquently presented their case, engaging in a battle of persuasion. Despite the stiff competition, our students showcased remarkable poise and resilience, leaving a lasting impression on both the judges and spectators alike.

We are delighted to announce that Preston Muslim Girls High School emerged victorious in the first round of the ESU Debate Mace competition! Their compelling arguments, confident delivery, and ability to rebut effectively earned them well-deserved recognition. This triumph secures their place in the next stage of the competition, where they will face a new motion and fresh challenges. We look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success as they advance to the second round.

Congratulations to our talented debaters! We sincerely thank all the parents and guardians for their support and encouragement throughout this exciting journey.
