To celebrate National Poetry Day, pupils engaged in an inspiring workshop led by a former head girl and published poet, Maryam Bargit. This session focused on the multifaceted world of poetry, allowing students to explore its various structures and forms. Maryam guided them through essential poetic elements, such as rhyme and imagery, enhancing their understanding of how language can evoke emotions. Through interactive discussions, students delved into different types of poetry, from sonnets to haikus, igniting their creativity and broadening their appreciation for the art form.
As part of the workshop, pupils were encouraged to write their own poems based on the theme of counting. Drawing on the techniques they had learned, they experimented with rhythm and word choice, crafting pieces that reflected their unique perspectives on the theme. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students shared their creations in front of a judging panel, celebrating the diverse interpretations of counting in life—from counting stars to counting memories.
