Tuesday 12 February – Enrichment Day

Year 7  – The Science Faculty organised a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester as part of the Enrichment day activities. Pupils had the opportunity to explore the various exhibits at the museum as well as taking part in one of two workshops. The seeing Sounds workshop allowed them to explore sound waves and the Materials and Design workshop allowed them to explore product design. Both workshops involved cross curricular learning and creativity. Pupils also explored the interactive gallery and took part in the Revolution Manchester Show which explained the beginnings of the Liverpool and Manchester railways in an interactive, fun way.

Year 8  – Year 8 pupils visited Preston College as part of their Enrichment day. Pupils were informed about the courses available, career prospects along with a tour of the campus. They also took part in Mental Health and Wellbeing workshops. Coping with stresses of daily life, positive self esteem and working productively was the theme portrayed within the activities.

Year 9 – Year 9 pupils took part in a trip to Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School Sixth Form Centre as part of their Enrichment day. They received a tour of the facilities and attended a talk on A level choices and also had the opportunity to network with sixth form pupils who are currently studying at the school by taking part in a sixth-form style lesson on debating skills. A fantastic opportunity for our pupils to see how a sixth form centre works and gain a feeling of the wealth of subjects available to them at A level. It also allowed them to network with like-minded young ladies with aspirations such as their own.

Bridge the Gap activity was delivered by  Preston College. It was a great opportunity for pupils to enhance their problem solving, team building & leadership skills. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed building and designing a bridge out of lego.

Sgt Archer and Sgt Arif from the Army (Preston) also delivered an elite problem solving activity to the Year 9. Pupils were  given an insight to Career prospects that are available within the Army. Pupils were overwhelmed to find out all the different job opportunities the Army has to offer.

Year 10 – Talk The Talk Workshops – Talk The Talk communication plus workshops delivered by the ‘Talk The Talk’ company to support pupils with communication and confidence building skills.
